He has documented a wide choice of routes designed for all levels and can offer various aids to help you on your way – ranging from the loan of maps and his own route notes to a semi-organised option including the provision of transportation and the use of a GPS with the routes pre-defined. By prior arrangement, usually for groups of four or more, guided walking holidays can be tailored to meet the requirements of the group. A week spent walking in the region can offer remarkable variety and would enable the visitor to fully appreciate the varied landscapes and history of this exceptional region of Southern Spain.
The historic city of Ronda is just 10 kilometres distant. Its dramatic location spanning a gorge some 200 metres deep has attracted travellers, writers and artists for centuries. The old city boasts a layout and many sites of interest dating back to its moorish origins, while across the famous ‘new bridge’ - which spans the gorge, can be found the commercial centre and bullring. The bullring is one of oldest and most revered in Spain while the town lives up to its reputation as the ‘capital’ of the Serrania with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Ronda can easily be reached by car, by train along the picturesque railway line which runs up the Guardiaro valley, or on foot!
The surrounding Serranias are known not just for their spectacular mountain scenery but also for the pueblos blancos, or white villages. These villages of Moorish origins enjoy spectacular settings above the valleys of two rivers – the Guadiaro and Genal, and merit exploration for a range of geographical, architectural and historic reasons.
Further afield are the major cities of Andalucia or Andalusia as it is sometimes spelt – Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba, Jerez, Cadiz and Malaga are all within reach of a days outing. The coastal resorts of Marbella and Estepona are an hour away. Also worth a visit are the traditional Spanish resorts of the yet unspoilt Costa de la Luz - Tarifa, Chiclana and Sanlucar de Barrameda.
All in all the perfect spot for hiking in some of the most beautiful countryside that Southern Spain has to offer and a wealth of opportunity to experience the true Spain here in Andalucia.
